CODES Activities at SC16

At SC this year, there were a number of activities that used the CODES/ROSS framework to evaluate HPC network and storage systems, study application interference, enable efficient collective communication, and perform visual analysis of simulations.
Papers:

  1. Caitlin Ross, PhD student from RPI, presented a workshop paper on visual data-analytics of parallel discrete-event simulations using CODES at the PMBS workshop. The work is being done as part of the CODES-Vis collaboration with Kwan-Liu Ma from UC-Davis.
  2. Xu Yang, PhD student from IIT, presented a paper about application communication interference on dragonfly networks in the SC technical program. Xu carried out this work while he was an intern at Argonne funded by the CODES project.
  3. Nikhil Jain, postdoc at LLNL, presented a paper about evaluating HPC networks through simulation of parallel workloads in the SC technical program. Nikhil Jain and Abhinav Bhatele (LLNL) are working with the CODES team on modeling current and future network architectures.

Posters:
4- Nathaniel Cheriere, PhD student from ENS France, worked with the CODES team to propose topology-aware collectives for the dragonfly network. Nathaniel presented a poster on this work that won 3rd prize in the ACM Student Research Competition.
5- Caitlin Ross, PhD student from RPI, presented a poster on performance analysis and visualization of dragonfly simulations using CODES at the women in HPC workshop at SC16.
6- Jian Peng, PhD student from IIT, presented a poster in the regular posters track on simulating burst buffer storage for the Blue Gene/Q supercomputer using CODES. Jian is continuing this work as an intern at Los Alamos National Labs.
7- Prajakt Shastry et al. from IIT presented a poster in the regular posters track on exploring randomized multipath routing on 5D torus networks using CODES.
