Regional Models

The a primary goal is to construct a system of ingesting undefined data sources into a unified platform for later modelling. To achieve this goal a secondary goal was established as an application milestone. The secondary goal was to evaluate the potential for increased frequency to improve the localized value of weather models. By using the application milestone we were able to determine real-world limitations on a otherwise theoretical platform.

Three areas are going to be explored/investigated:

  • Collection, sources, qc, observation lag and frequency
    • Global Data Acquisition
  • Storage, db structure optimizing speed, space and flexibility
    • Queues, Placement, Reasoning
    • Storage Methods (SQL / NetCDF)
  • Model Effects, how lag and frequency will effect the overall model
    • Time windows effect on observations
